Interprofessional Oral Health Clinical Case Studies

The mouth is the gateway to the rest of the body. Millions of Americans, especially vulnerable populations such as the elderly, disabled, mentally ill, special needs populations, and those without dental insurance, confront barriers to receiving oral health care. Oral health care is essential to promoting positive overall health outcomes. Our innovative clinical case studies demonstrate the many ways in which oral health and overall health are linked, as well as the role of intersectional collaboration across professions and settings in providing effective whole-person care that aim to improve health equity and health care equity. Our original case studies incorporate the social determinants of health in the clinical exemplars of oral-systemic health in patients across the lifespan with health conditions including diabetes, COVID-19, heart disease, cancer, HPV and more.
