The IPEC Core Competencies have helped to frame the national dialogue on the need for interprofessional education (IPE) and collaborative practice as a catalyst for improving team-based patient care and enhancing population health outcomes. First published in 2011 and updated in 2016, the IPEC competencies have become an indispensable resource to advance IPE for collaborative practice (IPECP). Key drivers shaping the 2023 version included the need to integrate perspectives from seven new IPEC member organizations and a desire to reflect contemporary research, policy, education, and practice realities.
Data Reports
The first Surgeon General Report on Oral Health was published in 2012. Since that time, the field of interprofessional oral health care has grown. See below for some highlights, captured in the many reports and key resources issued by HRSA and our partners.
ASTDD Older Adult Oral Health Resources for Collaboration
Oral health is an often-overlooked aspect of overall health in the older adult population. Changing perceptions of the importance of older adult oral health requires the dissemination of educational messaging to multiple audiences that result in an increased awareness and improved policy, funding, and program planning that result in older adults getting routine oral health care. The Older Adult Oral Health Resources for Collaboration guide from the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD) was developed as a resource to assist with training and educating professionals who work with older adults, and spark the interest of multiple groups in taking an education and/or advocacy role around older adult oral health through a health equity lens.
